Happy Thanksgiving

Are you cooking? I’m going easy this year. Turkey breast, green beans, mashed potatoes, dressing (Stove Top jazzed up with celery and mushrooms), and cranberry relish..

I just read a really, really easy recipe using fresh cranberries. Tony Bourdain’s book: Appetites. It’s so easy! Basically grind all the ingredients using one ripe orange and fresh cranberries in a food processor with about a cup of sugar (more if needed) and let it sit in the fridge at least overnight. I’m there…IF I can find a ripe enough orange off the tree in the backyard. (Feel grateful to have an orange tree. It’s still surviving some kind of fungus from the atmospheric rains last year. Knock on wood.)

I’m cooking most of the meal today. The green beans are boiled with tomatoes (a few slices), onion (I used leeks) and a few dried peppers. This really flavors them! I found the recipe in an international cookbook years ago. I remember serving them and my friend’s mother would not eat them saying with the pepper added, they would be spicy. Nope, just adds flavor. I couldn’t convince her though…

It’s great to have all that done as all is needed is to heat it up in the microwave. We are going to the track most of the day, then relax at home nuking dinner.

This is the LAST year for the track, so it’s a must! We no longer go to the TURF CLUB. It’s really nice and the buffet is splendid, but it just got really pricey! We just hang out in the bleacher section, place bets and sip our drinks enjoying the weather.

I’m sad the track will be gone next year. It’s fun going to watch the horses, but with all the bad press and deaths, etc….My dream is the A’s move there. Wouldn’t that be the field of dreams?

Happy Thanksgiving!
