Jessica Gavin’s Chicken Tortilla Soup

I have to post Jessica Gavin’s recipe. I’m pretty sure I saw it years ago in Bon Appetit. I’ve been on Bon Appetit’s site so much, the kitchen is NOW CLOSED. Somewhere I have a hard copy, but am disorganized with recipes. I’ve picked up tons of recipes at farmer’s markets or torn out of magazines, let alone the ones I’ve screen shot from ebooks. I LOVE reading recipes. Is there a job opening out there for that skill? :) Guess I AM A HOARDER.

In the article, she mentioned someone in her family wasn’t well, so she jazzed up the recipe to make it spicy. I didn’t have powdered cumin or coriander. I had seeds and toasted them first. OMG! This is what drives me to make this soup again and again. SERIOUSLY!

I wanna say she has revised the recipe. I don’t remember adding black beans. I was looking at my stash of Rancho Gordo beans and thought I had a pkg of black beans. Sad to say I do not, but I can’t whine toooo much, as there are other varieties to choose from in the ol’ pantry. (Proud member of the Bean Club)

I hope you enjoy this soup as much as me. Jessica is also on Instagram. I just started following her. She has a TON of apple recipes which will be great as Fall is just around the corner.
