Today I wanted to make fried rice, but not spend the time of cooking it. Whoa…a big 20 minutes, right? I remembered buying a small package of precooked rice from Target.
Target’s brand is Good and Gather. The brown rice has quinoa, red rice and flax seeds. Yuka app rated it excellent.
I hesitated opening the package as sometimes the precooked “healthy” packaged food taste crappy.
This is what I added:
2 cubes of frozen garlic cubes from Trader Joes
3 handfuls of spinach
About a cup of sliced mushrooms
About a cup or so of shredded cabbage
A touch of sprayed canola oil
The rice package said to add 2 tablespoons water while heating it. I added a touch more.
I cooked the fake chicken nuggets separate in a pan, which their directions did not include btw.
Overall it was tasty and better than I thought it would be.
However, if you planned it right:
-Cook a small batch of brown rice
-Cook a small batch of red rice (who has red rice in their pantry? I need to investigate this. Is it pricey? Does Ranch 99 have an organic version?)
-Cook a small batch of quinoa ( IF I have white rice I mix quinoa in with it so it makes it little healthier…at least that’s what I think)
-A stash of flax seeds (how long do they last? How long do china seeds last? I’ve had a jar of chia seeds since the Covid shut down in the garage. It’s dark and cool, so are they still ok??? I hate to throw them out as such a waste.
